The Great Divide
Throughout history, mankind has searched for the cause of division. We blame politics, race, wealth, religion, borders, education, and countless other differences. Yet when we open Scripture, we discover that the greatest divide has never been between political parties, nations, or social classes. The greatest divide has always been between truth and deception, light and darkness, obedience and rebellion, God and the world.
From the very beginning in the Garden of Eden, division entered humanity through a single lie. Satan did not arrive carrying a sword. He arrived carrying doubt. His question to Eve was simple: “Did God really say?” The first divide was created when mankind chose to trust another voice above the voice of God.
Since that moment, humanity has been fractured.
The story of Scripture is filled with examples of division. Cain and Abel. Jacob and Esau. The kingdoms of Israel and Judah. Prophets rejected by their own people. Even the coming of Christ brought division, not because He desired conflict, but because truth forces every person to choose a side.
Jesus Himself said, “He who is not with Me is against Me.” These words were not spoken to create hatred. They were spoken to reveal a reality that many prefer to ignore. Every human being eventually chooses which voice they will follow.
Today, we witness a great divide unlike anything many generations have experienced. Families no longer speak to one another. Friends are separated by opinions. Communities are torn apart by outrage. Social media rewards anger more than understanding. News organizations profit from fear. Politicians gain power through division. Entire industries thrive by convincing people that their neighbor is the enemy.
Yet the Bible reminds us that our true struggle is not against flesh and blood. As followers of Christ, we are also called to remember those who do not yet know Him. Many who seem lost, angry, confused, or distant from God are not our enemies but souls in need of His saving grace. We should pray that the truth of the Gospel reaches them, that the Holy Spirit opens their hearts, and that they come to know the Living God who loves them and calls them to Himself.
The person on the opposite side of an argument is not the ultimate enemy. The neighbor who disagrees with us is not the enemy. Even those who have wronged us are not the true enemy. Scripture teaches that there are spiritual forces at work seeking to divide, deceive, distract, and destroy.
The enemy understands something many people have forgotten: a united people are difficult to control, but a divided people are easily manipulated.
This is why Jesus prayed repeatedly for unity among believers. Not uniformity. Not blind agreement. Unity. A unity rooted in truth, love, mercy, and humility.
The Great Divide is ultimately not about left versus right, rich versus poor, young versus old, or one nation versus another. It is about whether humanity will embrace truth or continue chasing deception. It is about whether we will choose forgiveness over bitterness, courage over fear, faith over despair, and love over hatred.
God is still calling people out of darkness and into His marvelous light. He is still extending grace to the broken, hope to the weary, and mercy to those who have wandered far from Him. The invitation remains open.
In a world determined to divide itself into countless tribes and factions, the Gospel offers something radically different. It offers reconciliation. It offers redemption. It offers healing.
The answer to the Great Divide is not found in a politician, a movement, or an institution. The answer is found at the foot of the cross, where every person stands equally in need of grace.
One day every earthly argument will fade away. Every kingdom of man will pass. Every headline will be forgotten. What will remain is the eternal question each soul must answer:
Whom did you trust?
May we be found trusting the One who never changes, never lies, and never abandons those who seek Him.
A Prayer for Protection and Healing
Heavenly Father,
Today I lift up every person reading these words. I pray for my friends, my family, those who support me, those who disagree with me, and even those who may consider me their enemy.
Lord, surround them with Your protection. Place Your angels around their homes, their families, their children, and their loved ones. Guard their hearts and minds from fear, confusion, anxiety, and despair.
For those who are sick, bring healing. For those who are grieving, bring comfort. For those who are struggling financially, provide for their needs. For those carrying burdens too heavy to bear alone, remind them that You walk beside them.
Father, soften hardened hearts. Heal broken relationships. Restore families that have been divided. Bring peace where there is anger, understanding where there is confusion, and forgiveness where there is bitterness.
I pray especially for those who have spoken against me, criticized me, misunderstood me, or wished harm upon me. Bless them, Lord. Watch over them. Heal whatever wounds they carry. Let them experience Your mercy and Your love in ways they never imagined possible.
Protect Your people during uncertain times. Give wisdom to those making decisions. Give courage to those facing challenges. Give faith to those who feel hopeless.
May Your light shine into every dark place. May Your truth overcome every lie. May Your love overcome every hatred.
And when we stumble, remind us that Your grace is greater than our failures. When we are afraid, remind us that You are still on the throne. When we feel alone, remind us that You have never left us.
We place our trust in You and ask for Your protection, healing, guidance, and peace.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ,
Amen.
